Travelling like most of us is what I always like. Seeing
another beautiful scenery, for a moment washes away my problems. However, like
most of us globetrotter I experienced the biggest obstacle in travelling; lack
of funds and having no funds at all. As sad as it gets, I only travel whenever
my family sponsors or when we have school fieldtrip. Thus, whenever I visit a
new place, I don’t let go of my camera.
Last summer I visited the Province of Dinagat Islands that
is dubbed as Mystical Island Province of Love.
Location
Dingat islands is a
province in the Philippines, located on the south side of Leyte gulf. Leyte
island is to its west, across Surigao strait, and Mindanao is to its south. Its
main island, Dinagat, is about 60 km from north to south.
Municipalities
The province is composed of seven municipalities
namely San Jose, Libjo, Loreto, Dinagat, Cagdianao, Basilisa
and Tubajon. The capital of the province is
Jan Jose where the Islander's Castle or White Castle
is found. In Libjo,
expect to see a myriad of deserted islands with glorious beaches sequestered in
serene coves of various sizes. Bonsai forest serves as the main attraction in
the town of Loreto. Countless beaches grace the coastline of Cagdianao
and the town of Dinagat just south of San Jose. A number of waterfalls
are also scattered within the interior of Dinagat Island.
I didn’t get
to travel the whole province because they say it takes at least 5 days to
roughly discover the whole province. I only get to visit some areas of the municipality of
Tubajon and Libjo.
Tubajon
Tubajon
is a 4-hour boat trip from Surigao Boulevard.
Brief History
According to local folklore, during the Spanish regime, a banca boarded
with Guardia Civils landed in the shores of Tubajon in search of a criminal.
One of them came across a river and saw a man pounding leaves. Curious,
he asked the man, "What will you do with it?" The man answered
"Akong Tubajon ang suba aron sayon dakpon ang mga isda" (I will
poison the river with Tuba leaves so that the fishes could be easily caught).
One famous beach in the municipality is the
Talisay Beach. Talisay beach is a white sand beach (although seldom will you
find a black sand beach in the province).

Aside
from the beautiful beach, I have also captured beautiful sunsets in the same
area. Sunsets are always beautiful in the province. The sunsets are paired with
beautiful views resulting to a breathtaking sunsets.
